Indoor Season 1
Season Review
[This was written at the time] In stark contrast to the success of the club today, in the early days the club only won one of their first eleven games. It was only after a number of ugly scenes with supporters after the games that the board splashed out and signed the club’s first recognised goal scorer, Amarjit Something-or-other. He made his debut with a hat trick in the 3 – 10 loss to Premier sports. His first of 35 for the club. One of the darkest days in the clubs history was “Black Tuesday”. Following one of the worst defeats in the club’s history, to ‘Mine’s a Premier’, it was clear changes were needed. Alex, an unfortunate disappointment at right wing-back, was dropped from the team. More distressing was the departure of the fans favourite and prolific defender Mya Thevendra. Who invoked a gentleman’s agreement clause in his contract, and left the club on a free. It was clearly time for a change, and the board responded by shelling out yet again. This time they completed the signing of Andy Harris from Southampton for an undisclosed sum. He made his debut the very next week in what was to go on to be the most popular line up in the club history. He scored 7 goals in the walkover of the old enemy ‘The Lions’. The Andy – Amarjit partnership went on to confound critics, who claimed they couldn’t play together by netting a combined 37 goals in 4 games. Propelling Jelly Surprize to 3rd in the table in their first season. The first season was also notable as the 13th October saw the first of two appearances for Darren Hayes, a talented goalkeeper and right winger. Earlier in the year he had rejected a permanent move to the club due to a disagreement over personal terms. Instead opting for a move to the Greek champions Panathinakos. However due to their squad rotation policy he couldn’t get regular first team football, and JS managed to get a month loan deal for October – November, to cover injuries to the first choice keeper Simon Dixon. Of course a season one review wouldn’t be complete without some mention of “Lucky” Sunny Lally, the only player in the team’s history not to play in a single winning team.
