Si's Figure Painting and Converting Corner

I have been painting minitures since about 1995, I first got into wargaming about 3-4 years before that through HeroQuest and Space Crusade. I never really got into the table top games themselves though (Warhammer etc) and for about the past six years I have been concentrating only on painting.

Style

Recently I have gone away from what I would call a "high fantasy" style of painting and tend to use more muted and 'realistic' colours. I'm not a fan of extreme highlights on minitures and I also tend towards clean, sharp lines when painting and converting.

My favorite minitures at the moment are the Lord of the Rings range from Games Workshop, not only because they are beautifully made/sculpted but also because my natural painting style works well on them.

I'm also trying to master sculpting with 'green stuff' and have started to try and make some models completely from scratch on a wire frame. My two current projects are to build a band of Eldar Harlequins, using loads of converting and sculpting to make unique models. Hopefully these will be of sufficient standard to enter into Golden Demon and have a chance of making the first round cut at least. I also want to convert a full squad of Thousand Sons Chaos Terminators to go with the one I have already completed as a test piece.
Then there's the Lord of the Rings minis I keep meaning to get round to, as well as the Rogue Trader force I've always been meaning to put together as well as all those excellent Forge World tanks I keep wanting to buy......
